• Break-even occupancy: The point at which a property shifts from an operating deficit to an operating surplus. It is the occupancy % at which the effective gross income is equal to the sum of the operating expenses plus debt service.

  • B2B (Business-to-business): A form of transaction between businesses.

  • B2C (Business-to-customer): A form of transaction between businesses and customers.

  • BE (Booking Engine): An application to capture and process direct online reservations.

  • CDP (Customer Data Platform)

  • CMS: Content Management System - Manages content for marketing.

  • CM: Channel Manager - Connects to all of our booking channels.

  • CP: Community Platform.

  • CRM: Customer Relationship Management: program to maintain close, lasting relationships between a hotel and its guests.

  • CRS: Central Reservations System -  the system used by a hotel brand which allows members of the public to make reservations for rooms at a hotel which is part of a chain or group of hotels.

  • GOP: Gross Operating Profit – Gross Revenue, less Operating Expenses

  • GRR (/GOR): Gross Room Revenue (/Gross Operating Revenue) - Gross Revenue, excluding revenue from food, drink, minibars, laundry, pay TV, etc.

  • Gross Revenue = Total Revenue – cost of goods sold

  • OTA: Online Travel Agency - an online third party (e.g. Expedia or Hotels.com) which sells hotel rooms and is paid a commission for any bookings by Owners.
  • PMS: Property Management System - the software in a hotel which contains information about available and occupied rooms, rates, historical and future reservations, and guest charges.

  • POS: Point of Sale system - For hotels, a POS system can link a hotel property management system (PMS) with the restaurant or spa, so all transactions and data are in a centralized location.

  • PSP: Payment Service Provider - Handles payments between relevant parties (from guest to host). 

  • RMS: Revenue Management System - a software solution which allows hotels to carry out important revenue management tasks more efficiently and effectively. It makes use of data from the hotel and from the market at large in order to help make more informed decisions.

  • TMS: Token Management System - Issues tokens for bookings (10%) and handles reward distributions (proportionate to tokens). This is our "loyalty" or "rewards" program. The tokens can be guest rewards for future stays, can be redistributed as donations to neighbors, or can be reinvested or granted to hosts.

  • UX: User Experience / UI: User Interface (Software development jargon).

  • Voting share: Voting shares are shares of a company that entitle the shareholder to vote on key issues of the company.

  • VP: Voting Platform
